CHAPTER 09 · FOUNDERS · ISSUE 01

Two immigrant founders.
Operator and builder.

"operator and builder, immigrant founders, skin in the game"

Matthew Góralczyk

Came to the UK alone at sixteen for A-levels in Psychology in Weymouth. By seventeen, running the team rebuild at a food outlet across an ownership transition. Two years as Student Governor at Weymouth College. HNC in Animation Industry (Merit) via the Plymouth University partnership; HND in progress.

Self-taught the AI engineering stack in 2025–26. Currently the primary product creator across every Bento Labs project — Holt, Agora, Holt Agent, Solon, BentoPOS, Reckon, Neatbooks, and the consumer iOS app Overstimulated. The work below is the tooling that built them.

Tech stack

The languages, frameworks, and infrastructure the products in Issue 01 are built on. Every one of these has been shipped to a real user or signed off by a real customer.

  • Astro 4 + MDX (this site)
  • Tailwind CSS 4 · shadcn/ui
  • Framer Motion · GSAP · Lenis
  • Expo / React Native (mobile)
  • SwiftUI (iOS — Overstimulated)

  • Git · GitHub · worktrees · conventional commits
  • Linux, macOS dev environments
  • pnpm monorepos · Turborepo
  • OAuth · session security · RLS

Python — beyond the AI column

Python is the back-pocket language. The tooling I reach for when JavaScript isn't the right answer — data work, scripting, scraping, ML preprocessing, glue code between services.

Web & API

  • FastAPI · Flask
  • Pydantic v2 · type-driven schemas
  • asyncio · httpx · aiohttp
  • uvicorn · Gunicorn
  • SQLAlchemy 2.x · Alembic migrations

Data & ML

  • Anthropic — Teaching AI Fluency · in progress
  • Kubernetes — CKAD/CKA pursuit, additional certifications in flight

In the Anthropic ecosystem

Member of the Claude Partner Network. Attended Code with Claude · London — Extended Day on May 20, 2026, for hands-on workshops with Anthropic's Applied AI team.

EXTENDED DAY · MAY 20 · WORKSHOPS COMPLETED

  • How we Claude Code Arnaud Doko
  • Ship your first Managed Agent Isabella He
  • Agents that remember Kevin Chen
  • Evals for taste: hill-climbing a slide-generation agent Jiri De Jonghe
  • Tool, skill, or subagent? Decomposing an agent that outgrew its prompt Will Steuk
  • Agent Battle: mine the most diamonds in 45 minutes Ben Lehrburger

The throughline across the six workshops — managed agents, persistent memory, taste-based evals, decomposition between tools/skills/subagents, and competitive agent design — maps onto how every Bento Labs product is now built. Holt, Holt Agent, Agora, BentoPOS, Neatbooks: each leans on at least one of these patterns shipped within weeks of the conference.

How I work

Solo product engineer. The kind of builder who can deliver any code with enough tokens — meaning: the bottleneck is rarely the writing, it's the reading, architecting, and reviewing. I spend most of my time on the parts a model can't do alone: shaping requirements, choosing the right boundary, deciding what not to build.

The portfolio in Issue 01 is what one person can ship when AI coding tools are treated as engineering teammates rather than autocomplete. I default to clean architecture, small files, atomic commits, and reading the entire diff before merging. Tests where they matter; not as religion.

Nam Tang

Operator, shareholder, and former employer. Took Matthew on at seventeen, watched him rebuild a team, and now backs Bento Labs with capital and commercial judgement.

Mentor-turned-co-founder. Investor introductions and operator advice come from the same person. Years of working trust before the founders' agreement was signed on 13 March 2026.
